World Environment Day Marked by YPSA

World Environment Day is marked on Friday June 5th 2020. It is an environmental awareness day, run by the United Nations. It is sometimes also unofficially called Eco Day or Environment Day. The aim of the Day is to raise awareness of the environment and specific environmental issues.

YPSA expressed its solidarity with the spirit of the day. In line with the the of world environment day, 2020’s theme, YPSA addressed that because of the unsafe practice of shipbreaking yards, all those liquid hazardous waste of the scrape ships for breaking are being dumped in the Bay of Bengal which is destroying the eco-diversity of the water and killing the sensitive sea species including dolphins and other valuable fishes and the livelihood option, of the fishing communities, is also loosing away. YPSA urges to stop dumping toxic waste of the ships for breaking on the sea and ensure internationally standard waste management system in the yards.

Wold Environment Day (WED) was established in 1972 but first held in 1974, which shows that concern about the environment goes back several decades at least. 143 countries take part in World Environment Day, and the day focuses on environmental concerns ranging from pollution to global warming and sustainable food production to protection of wildlife.
