Legal Camp: Empowering Workers Through Legal Awareness and Rights Education
In the shipbreaking industry, many workers are unaware of their legal rights and fair wage entitlements. Frequently, workers face illegal layoffs, low wages, and unprofessional treatment in the yards. Workers often perform their tasks without understanding the terms of their labor, such as working hours, entitlements to fair wages, and overtime compensation. Additionally, many are unaware of the legal steps to take when their rights are violated, such as unjust layoffs or unpaid wages.
To address these critical gaps in legal knowledge, YPSA organizes Legal Camps aimed at educating workers about their rights and the laws protecting them. These camps are conducted with the presence of skilled legal experts, such as qualified advocates, who guide workers through various labor laws and provide essential information on how to seek justice when facing exploitation or unfair treatment.
Through this initiative, 332 workers have been empowered with the knowledge needed to understand their legal rights and obligations. The camp focuses on several key aspects, such as:
